The exit interview generally happens in professional employment upon an employee having expressed a career change with departure in mind. The employer responsible for such an interrogation seeks to extract perceived opportunity for company improvement from the employee soon to depart and quite naturally this same interview wouldn’t be granted one insubordinate, but can include petition onto the employee to remain (e.g. by offering salary increase, perks, etc.).
