Today’s Thought “Home for Christmas” G. Ward

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.”

The visuals on television commercials for this time of year portray such peace and continuity among family and friends amidst a backdrop of décor in warmth while chilly exists outdoors. It appeals to the whole of mankind’s desire for the same perceived authenticity in care from family and friends. There however is a cultural war that’s full of deception, perpetuating great debate in the soul; mandating rights and reception to what you do versus unalienable recognition for who you are (cf. 1 Ti.3:1-4). The delusion is so pervasive, even causing great lack of deeper independent thinking, denying basic understanding that mandates no one upon looking at me can authoritatively state what I do in my personal space and it certainly must never define who I am. There is however Final Authority who does see what any are involved with and desires (through unrelenting LOVE for your soul) that you come home whereby genuine care exists (1 Pe.5:6-7)…

Today’s Thought “Needs Over Desire” G. Ward

2 Corinthians 5:20 “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

A great economy is relative to perceived blessings shared one to another. Furthermore, it invites some of the least in all our acquaintances to receive tokens regarding friendships. Christmas club savings have become the consideration from most employers that enable this perspective and when those funds become available look out shopping malls, here they come!

There are some who seek to break the traditional gift exchange via crafts and baked goods; exercising fiscal prudence. Whether an exercise in frivolous or limited spending, have any invited Holy God’s perspective (*cf. Jas.4:3-8)? Extending a percentage unto HIS cause at your local fellowship (weekly), never invited (spiritually) a prerogative that embraces the remainder of what I’ve earned as mine own (i.e. to do as I choose – Ps.24:1). The entirety of who we as believers have become (via our confession) should “opt out” in doing what we deem as good, by  perfectly submitting to WHO accepts our repentance.

Today’s Thought “Hanging the Mistletoe, But No Kiss” G. Ward

James 2:13 “For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.”

Christmas parties are numerous from this time forward and the guy from the mailroom and the chief executive staff are frequenting the eggnog saturated with spirits. The dance floor is crowded with gyrations and shouts of euphoria from comrades otherwise reserved, and if you look in the distance Larry just placed the illustrious “lampshade” on his head (*cf.1 Cor.6:11). All of those participants have invited you to “let go” but your guarded position wears an unforgiving expression that pre-meditatively disassociates with all the players therein for the New Year upcoming (*cf. 2 Cor.5:20). They’ve heard (incessantly) of your spiritual connection, yet witness little to no demonstration outside of the banner that tags you arrogant and aloof.

While Christ may have passed in attending a party similar, HE patiently and lovingly awaited their remorse (2 Pe.3:9)…

Today’s Thought “Get Insurance With Every Purchase” G. Ward

Colossians 1:13 “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.”

Losing a component to a game or device was typical for a kid many years ago and today’s young people are no different. Economics however have declined exponentially since I was a child that would probably have the modern parent admitted to a hospital, stressed and perplexed over how their little 4 year old could have broken the Apple I-Phone X they purchased at Christmas.

Seeking to satisfy another via a tangible gift is comparable to a child losing or breaking a portion of a game or device received. Value and interest in all things seen or touched will soon diminish; whereas the Gift provided from On High keeps giving immeasurably (Eph.3:20-21). Little Johnny or Rebecca can’t lose that (cf. Ro.8:35)…

Today’s Thought “Johnny Gets Jail Time” G. Ward

Colossians 1:For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

Our days in experiencing technology that delivers news on the spot helps us gain visuals of varied crimes committed whereby many exercise in more indignation that condemns permanently (cf. Jas.2:13). Thereafter, we’ve witnessed the court trials and sentencing for these perpetrators to note great pleas from the mothers of those socially rejected. The condemnation from many equates these mothers with being responsible for their child’s lack in social compliance that landed them in this proposed mayhem. All that Mother saw was the child she loved (*cf.1 Ti.1:12-17).

LOVE = “Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Cor.13:7).

Today’s Thought “Blinded by the Light” G. Ward

2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Varied doctrines equal more indecision whereby afflictions (i.e. troubles) persist. If/when one gives up towards pursuit in what may sound good (that which has seasonal success at best, but horrid eternal implications) unto what was established even before earth’s beginning, WILL find rest (Matt.11:28-30). Belief is said to be the qualifier, whereas anything believed cannot be with a conviction minus a practice therein (*Jas.2:14-20)…

Today’s Thought “A Smoke-Filled Room” G. Ward

Psalm 119:83 “Though I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget Your statutes.”

The psalmist’s illustration of “a wineskin in the smoke” is indicative of a broken life; a uselessness of lofty pursuits away from God’s directives. This status is lonely and grievous, longing for a peace that shelters (cf.! Pe.4:8). A search that may include counsel of sorts along with Holy God’s precepts is not the road to resolution. TODAY, carries a powerful connotation in new opportunity that obscures indifferences of old (Ps.119:145-152). Freedom isn’t free until the OWNER extends a pardon…

Today’s Thought “Avoiding Practicality” G. Ward

Psalm 119:160 “The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.”

The political symbols, along with principles imposed on Americans (whether pro or con), means absolutely nothing on this somber week in recognizing the life of our 41st President who more sought to enable dignity while difference existed. Wisdom in this regard will surface when any contemplate the magnitude of life when departing the earth is realized (cf. Matt.24:35). While we wait, nurturing what isn’t guaranteed (i.e. eternal life – cf. Matt.7:21-23), particularly any form in great humanitarianism, must insist that every deed glorify His Maker (*Col.3:17). A somber week exists because one understood. Will your week include eulogies comparable?

Today’s Thought “Big Baby” G. Ward

Psalm 119:155-156 “Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek Your statutes. Great are Your mercies, O Lord; revive me according to Your ordinances.”

My being enthralled with the commandments of God must never get off my knees, particularly in view of this merciful encounter (cf. Ps.118:24, Lk.6:46), to then offer my creativity unto next moments not belonging to me. Encountering the All-Wise, Sufficient King’s precepts leaves no room to consider personal wisdom that invites articulating (including enacting) plans, to then beg Holy God to bless them (cf. Ps.37:5).

I’m determining to not violate my eternity over kudos from man…

Today’s Thought “Teacher’s Pet” G. Ward

Psalm 119:99 “I have more insight than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation.”

Naturally, yet un-spiritually, there exists a sublime confidence not pleasing to Holy God to which I’ve been guilty. That portrayal from me translates independence from my Creator whereby no shelter exists (cf. Jn.15:5). Shame and forgetfulness is always the end result; because the words or deeds to follow most certainly deny peace for every witness therein.

Those truly reconciled, long to be protected while careful to admit “if it had not been for the Lord on my side…”

Today’s Thought “The Toy I Never Got” G. Ward

Matthew 5:48 “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

I believe any in their adulthood are the children they once were with a grown up set of perspectives that lends itself to identifying responsibility that creates sustenance for themselves and family. The time granted them seemingly affords them an opportunity to be in control of the pain administered while they were a child. That kind of divertive recall avoids reality because it never forgives genuinely so; for forgiveness is never genuine outside of the grip of grace Christ provides. Moreover, love remains conditional, even observing who may be favorite, because mankind’s estimation of love is too involved in wrongs suffered to progress unto the highest standard in Who love is (1 Jn.4:7-9). You and I don’t cure because of an intellectual aptitude that appears mature. That superficial stance more seeks to impress on others an attempt to resolve the dysfunction of their youth. Real maturity understands that so many administered in a way that seemed best, although what they possessed was so entirely incomplete. What allows my forgetfulness of the many violations perceived is a practice in realizing how much the Father loves me, despite conditions and people against me. The introspection necessary for me on today wants to apologize to my wife, children and grandchildren for the dysfunction I’ve caused that may perpetuate the aforementioned…

Today’s Thought “Kickin A Man When He’s Down” G. Ward

James 4:7  “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

The struggle in personal desire is readily perceived for every life (Ro.3:10). From birth, we’re taught to endeavor things that carry benefit unto oneself and others. There are however some that teach their children total dependence on Holy God (cf. Deut.6:4-6), whereas difficulty in faith practiced soon encounters predominant visuals of practitioners in pleasure (that influences). There’s an answer that thwarts that crisis in belief; it’s called perfect submission through steadfast pursuit of Holy God’s word. The conscientiousness in salvation’s practice is then first nature when faced with ideas in personal perspectives that limits and denies resolution. The religious, on the other hand, more pervade on others a notion of binding Satan as if Jesus our Lord’s defeat of him needed our help.

Today’s Thought “Because It Is Written vs. Spiritual Transformation” G. Ward

1 Peter 4:8 “Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.”

The dialogue that keeps giving is the condition of the church; its rudiments, greedy preachers and in-hospitality. Furthermore it invites those less committed to gathering under a premise of corporate worship (Heb.10:25), to more embrace defense as to why they lack participation therein. Believer’s frustration is equally a mis-informed embrace, in that the forgetfulness of the Lord’s relentless pursuit of them discounts their own spiritual obligation unto another who may be less connected.

All would do well to never consider the impropriety of man as synonymous to the Father loving them (Ro.5:8). Worship happens without special days allotted (Col.2:16) and determines that bunches aren’t needed to celebrate HIS unwavering position of love.

Today’s Thought “Chitlins in My Lunchbag?” G. Ward

Isaiah 24:4The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the highest people of the earth languish.”

The Tribulation period is elaborated on by Isaiah to share Holy God’s sovereignty (ultimate power) in the earth HE created. The lack in compliance of His demands will then discover there’s no place to hide. Altogether, this impending judgment is threatening to those independent of HIS rule (cf. Matt.11:28-30); but any teachable, can avert this tragic reality through a spirit of humility that celebrates the new day’s opportunity (Ps.118:24) in surrendering unto Supremacy.

The items served on last Thursday were welcomed, whereas Monday’s delight insists on meatloaf; while a great preponderance of mankind desires a cup of clean drinking water…

Today’s Thought “Residing On the Plantation” G. Ward

Proverbs 28:26 “Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.”

Slavery or being enslaved carries a horrid connotation due to mankind’s abusive regard in self-centeredness. Jesus, our Lord demanded that we know of His desired gentle proprietorship of any who would confess HIM as Owner of their lives. His rule is absolutely without abuse, yet man struts around in his own thinking, via contemplations of relinquishing only partial control to Him, which empties unto not being known by heaven’s standard. Floating one’s own boat on the seas belonging to the Master may disallow your tools of navigation functionality, whereby your ship will soon sink (2 Cor.6:1-3).

The fool is arrogantly complacent with his relationship in presumed intimacy with the Savior; but his words say so, while his heart ceases in spiritual progression (cf. Lk.6:46). He attends church, but fails to be the church (i.e. refusing discipleship – Mt. 16:24). Victory is his through great promulgation in how good God is unto him and then the end. Matthew 7: 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.”

Today’s Thought “I Don’t Eat Everyone’s Chitlins!” G. Ward

Proverbs 27:3 “A stone is heavy and the sand weighty, But the provocation of a fool is heavier than both of them.”

Food shortages are mostly attributable to countries bordering desert regions that keep us with subliminal visuals in photo opts taken of those standing, appearing highly emaciated with flies swarming about; to forget that America is plagued with visuals of prosperity presumed to be with those next door, precluding their suffering similarly.

Thanksgiving Day is eight days from now and controversial individuals are on their way to pervade on you and me more social improprieties and political distractions without true resolve that carry an insistence that we adopt their perspectives (without wavering). In essence, you’re to drink the Kool-Aid, disallowing the arsenic’s contamination. The well thought of conjuring from any seemingly intelligent, prepares fervently, through studying facts relative of American discord, while teeter-tottering on blessed assurance that Jesus is their Lord; but if that were so, their supplications would more embrace eight days in praying for HIS opportunity for peace that causes tremendous introspection of the grace and mercy that desires repentance, making HIM sufficient.

Today’s Thought “Are Gift Cards Impersonal?” G. Ward

John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

The commercialization of varied holidays may be an instrument in oversight that denies humanitarian efforts. Moreover, the arduous contributions shared with family and friends (i.e. home preparation and shopping) could be the un-realized promotion of a cantankerous spirit in me after the festivities, particularly when I’m absolutely depleted of energy and resources thereafter.

The controversy of the season continues to question what the reason for the season is about, but words are cheapened by similar contribution of years prior. Perhaps some like me are ideologues of sorts, but it appears a simple transformation is at hand – just do it. There however is expectancy from others who’ve been recipients of our generosity that wouldn’t understand our change. Furthermore, new found positioning in us can/will cause divide from others, whereas the spiritual obligation always loves well enough to invite others unto the Gift that never awaits a holiday (cf. Ac. 20:27). “Why don’t you give love for Christmas Day?”

Today’s Thought “Change the Narrative?” G. Ward

Romans 12:10  Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”

Veteran’s Day transcendence was/is remarkably perceived by the world on yesterday (by another name -Armistice Day) as political leaders and its citizenry marched throughout America, France, Australia, The United Kingdom, New Zealand and others, celebrating the 100th anniversary’s end of World War I, along with the sacrifice of those who fought and their families (*cf. Rev.7:9).

While acquainted with land boundaries, with its perceived ownership (cf. Ps. 24:1), have any contemplated Holy God’s intent, particularly the premise of His love towards mankind beyond geographical lines? Moreover, has the celebratory praise of soldier’s commendations that offers kudos to their keeping a parcel of the earth safe, denying their spiritual obligation to come to Jesus on the same terms as the rest of earth’s citizens (because sacrifice, even up to life, regarding unrest from varied nations and the conviction to defend, having never been the standard in being known by heaven – cf. Ps.127:1)? Heroism in earth, shouldn’t lead to eternal separation from the Father. Loving and honoring truly understands our reasonable service as soldiers of the cross, to dispel Truth unto any (indiscriminate to boundary lines) so that peace would compel mankind to lay their weapons down (Eph.6:12).

Honoring my Father Horace A. Ward (United States Air Force), my brother Horace D. Ward (United States Marine Corps), along with every veteran for their service.

Today’s Thought “Corporal Punishment in School” G. Ward

2 Timothy 2:4 “No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.”

Attending a parochial school for my generation carried a connotation of strong, disciplinary boundaries both educationally and morally. For my siblings and me the threat perceived by fellow students from varied priests or nuns was merely an extension of home boundaries (synonymous with The Gestapo of the 1930’s & 40’s – somewhat cynical). I avoided trouble for fear in being mis-handled (particularly by those instructors wearing those funny looking uniforms), but then there was that dreadful day while I was a third-grader whereby implicit instruction was given that no one should leave their seat and guess who failed to listen attentively to then rise and sharpen his pencil? My early years had personal prognosticators insisting I was going to be small in stature like my father and that woman took full advantage of that (50 years ago & I’m yet upset)! She (and no she doesn’t deserve a name – just kidding – Eph.4:26) snatched my arm practically out of socket (sometimes it still hurts) while my feet were dangling in the air to then throw me in my seat (that my parents paid for). Needless to say educational prowess on that day was extinguished by embarrassment and anger. Moreover, I was far too cute for that kind of handling (cf. Ro.12:3), but it enabled my subordination to my Master, whose rule is gentle and merciful, yet carries a horrid reverberation when any refuse the mandates given, while they can yet be investigated (*Ro.6:23).

Today’s Thought “If I Were King of the Forest…” G. Ward

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”

All the political hyperbole is seemingly extinguished as the mid-term elections have been settled. America however is more indicative of particles smoldering in the forest subject for spark that may become an inferno.

The political scope in such a democracy is said to be determined by conviction (social, cultural and moral) from its constituents. While all three remain argumentative (cf. Ac.2:44), rarely is there over-riding contentment with theocratic positioning (1 Sa.8). Moreover, governance imposed from godly mandates for our time desire to merely include arrogant posture (*Eph.2:8-9) that denies abortion and appropriate original intent for gender activity. Then, other factions passionately advocate for social reform (i.e. health and welfare), making that notion a bully-pulpit. Both may be great and many of us have enjoined ourselves both voluntarily and involuntarily over the years to witness little to no change (*Ro.3:4). Our frustrations and joy rise and fall, while peace is forsaken and perpetuation in what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”

Failing to trust in the gentle, merciful rule of the All-Wise Savior is without blue or red tint (cf. 2 Cor.6:2).

Today’s Thought “Appraisal of a Gift from the Wealthy” G. Ward

Isaiah 53:1 “Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”

A gift from the wealthy that would arrive at the threshold of our doorway would most certainly be the first package worthy of exploration. Moreover once un-packaged, our immediate interrogation would desire to know the value therein, appealing to our underlying, superficial attitudes (cf. Phil.2:5-8).

I believe that what continues to trump superficial value is the heartfelt, intentionality of the Giver. I t deserves grateful contemplation (from the recipient) in how One so wealthy could ever think of them so highly. If my day granted would embrace this reality (Ps.118:24), my day’s governance would present similar hope to another who has the same gift at their own threshold, but unfolds (traditionally) the sales advertisements first to never realize the greatest gift exists right there in their presence (*Rev.3:20-21).

Today’s Thought “Barry Manilow’s Version” G. Ward

Matthew 6:11 “Give us this day our daily bread.”

I absolutely love every song Barry Manilow produced. There’s one however that’s my favorite (It’s Just Another New Year’s Eve); speaking to the opportunity to seize a new beginning despite mistakes of old (cf. 1 Cor.5:17).

Unless any surrender this ideology unto the One able to truly erase past imperfects, anxieties persist. Jesus Christ desires to be the solace necessary for soul reprieve. HIS love and care is indiscriminate (Ro.10:13). On numerous occasions HE sought to penetrate the mindsets of those disciples who like some of us equated the bread of His discourse to that which would sustain their physicality to do the Master’s will (*Matt.6:30-35). While our appetites remain insatiably driven, satisfying our stomachs, strength to endure emanates from our soul and if malnourished, we perish. Our insistence for those spiritual nuggets must be comparable to the baby’s cry until the bottle is placed in the mouth (1 Pe.2:2-3); synonymous with a doting parent’s care, yet remembering HIM as the Good Shepherd who won’t lead you unto poisonous pastures.

Today’s Thought “Sitting On the Porch Waiting for My Daddy” G. Ward

John 10:24-25 The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.”

I watched a documentary on last night that shared the rise of the great comedian Rickey Smiley. His respectability towards traditional values is astounding and celebratory. This segment was power-packed with points to consider, but there was one that was particularly defining for me. Mr. Smiley’s second son, birthed through illegitimacy, happened with a girlfriend whereby both were soon thereafter estranged from one another. She too had a daughter from a previous relationship whereas that father abandoned his responsibility. Mr. Smiley insisted with passionate conviction, that a failed relationship with a woman won’t ever have a real man retrieving his biological son (upon scheduled visitation) without considering their sibling who’s without similar hope. Adopting this other child for him was unequivocal.

Our adoption in the spiritual realm, celebrates Jesus our Lord; for HIS rescuing us wholly/holy from what could have been a most disastrous journey in depletion (*cf. Jn.10:10b). More imperative to consider is our illegitimacy beforehand, whether we enjoyed a biological father or not.

Today’s Thought “Commonly Expressed, Wholly Violated” G. Ward

Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”

The Baby-Boomer generation along with generations prior could recite what presumably is the Lord’s Prayer (actually meant for HIS disciples) on demand. The major emphasis however first sought total dependence on Holy God and while reverencing HIM became the sentiment in familiarity that witnessed our clasped hands and bowed heads, soon would encounter predominant teachings that embraced reliance on common sense principles along with independent thought. Moreover, we proudly proclaimed Psalm 23, receiving great accolades from men, that again insisted our beings line up with sole guidance from our Maker (cf. Pr.16:1) to violate the inference of the whole of man’s comparability to sheep (a dumb animal needing guidance).

We’re now at an era whereby both of these spiritual expressions are rarely recited and the refusal to be governed is celebrated and we can’t wait to mid-term elections so that our varied legislators can grant us peace on value systems unrecognizable in the heavenlies.

Today’s Thought “On the Front Row…” G. Ward

Revelation 21:4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

There’s surety in ceremony whereby the living grieve their loved one’s departure. The preliminary in pomp and circumstance has many with tremendous expressions of sympathy that includes bringing too much food onto the homes of the bereaved as if the appetites of those depressed are gargantuan. The culminating ceremony is sometimes referred to as shedding closure. Reasonable compassion however, may interrogate one’s own recall in losing close friends or family whereby ceremony never contemplated those miserable days or years following.

America’s chant of “what a shame” that devotes cases of water, fried chicken and monetary gifts, must never become the substitute that attains to the feather in the cap syndrome, but must consider walking alongside the weak as we too have been granted greater grace (1 Thess.5:11). Praying for The Tree of Life Synagogue…

Today’s Thought “Pittsburgh Pirate” G. Ward

Romans 1:20  For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

There were no disguises; he arrived as himself; in a season where Halloween reigns supreme. The fame he sought equaled mission accomplished. It was a feat in hatred towards perceived indifference, obliterating the lives of a peaceable people. Unfortunately, he won’t be the last purveyor of divisiveness that destroys (cf. Jas.3:5-6), because there’s existential division within every scope of man. While he celebrates without contrast the apple tree vs. a pear tree, the portrayal in physicality, along with religious misunderstanding perpetuates separatism, only to unify when calamity and destruction happens.

Race is a social construct, and all who allow the infestation of scholarship to portray differences therein denies our only existential reality – “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Ge.1:27). Faith more seeks to unify with spiritual lenses given the new man that trusts implicitly (2 Cor.5:7). God doesn’t need our favors… Shalom!

Today’s Thought “Drinks for Everyone!” G. Ward

2 Chronicles 15:5-7 “In those times there was no peace to him who went out or to him who came in, for many disturbances afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands. Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God troubled them with every kind of distress. But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work.”

Residing in a land flowing with milk and honey may forget the Owner’s demand over a wavering, predominant message. Then, there are the visuals so entirely captivating, extending hope beyond present measure found in others seemingly with more, appealing to insatiability found in man and unrelenting determination that insists having the object in desire will shed completion (cf. 2 Sa.11:2-5).

Adaptations unto great crowds may soon witness the many under tremendous collapse; whereas unilateral trust of the Owner’s demand promotes peace (cf. Mt.7:13-14).

Today’s Thought “The Great Escape” G. Ward

Proverbs 10:9Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.”

President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s inaugural address contained a most excellent slogan for Americans to adopt; particularly in that time of economic uncertainty, “Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself.” This eloquent leader would seek to lead by preeminently stating truth not politics in false hope. He utilized the term to describe 1930’s years of stock market failure that lent to the Depression era as enduring “common difficulties.” Moreover, he portrayed it as solely material. Boldly, his spiritual discourse sought to have every listener to reflect on the pestilences and famines instituted by Holy God unto a people disobedient whereby escape wasn’t possible. Amazingly, in what’s been a little over eight decades ago, the modern day politician may seek to invite others unto a biblical observation, but would be misunderstood because spiritual foundation has been horribly un-investigated for our times.

The encouragement for today rests entirely on our being awakened on today (cf. Phil.1:6). The blessings therein may certainly include tangibles (cf. Mt. 6:19-21), but have more to do with having Sufficiency on our side. That reliance must never be superficial, but compelled by the love given us by our Creator. When truth becomes our insistence, we’re then faced with all our propositions in subjectiveness soon to lose strength that warrants our return unto Shelter. Please come out of the rain…

Today’s Thought “Plotting A Murder” G. Ward

2 Corinthians 5:20 “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

Believing understands the object to where one’s faith exists. Moreover, that conviction establishes a practice unto any whereby consideration of another standard is not an option. It’s comparable to a track and field athlete maximizing his training by preparing for an event to then be told by their coach at last moments to hurry towards the volleyball court, forgetting the foot race.

Believing in Christ must understand one’s own reconciliation HE provided so as to become new. The product thereafter rests on Holy God’s words through them; along with actions that pleasures Him. The church (i.e. any who believe) are afforded an inference as “the bride.” The term’s comparability establishes that a wedding of sorts took place when we said “I do” unto Christ’s sufficiency and many of us deny intimacy unto our Husband, allowing others to know more about Him, while demanding He lives at our address (*cf. 1 Jn.2:3-6).

Today’s Thought “Am I Too Old for Halloween?” G. Ward

James 4:7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Halloween has become the commercialized holiday the religious abhor. For them it’s indicative of satanic influence in the world. Moreover, it’s shamefully (that being their criticism) become the substitute for real Love demonstrated (Mt. 28:19). Christmas however is the holiday for the religious with quintessential, celebratory praise that has a lengthy seasonal devotion, and although the commercialization therein leaves so many depleted of monies, reminds those with horrid support systems that love seems so far away and is entirely without fundamental spiritual origin, mankind insists on its supremacy over other pagan worship; while witches, vampires and goblins remain synonymous with the Devil dressed in red carrying a pitch-fork (*the children just want the candy). Any pursuant to forgiveness through Christ should be reminded that deception is rarely ugly (in human terms – cf.*Eph.6:12). Satan was compelled to earth solely from this demand found in Ezekiel 28:17 - Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.” We too can become so infatuated with our intelligence while striving to fulfill selfish desire that denies Holy God’s imagery to shine through. The day presented us is not for others to be condemned, but to know HIS grace remains sufficient…

Today’s Thought “Unacceptable Colonization” G. Ward

Matthew 24:1-5 Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray.

I remain perplexed as a second generation recipient of this illustrious television era. In times past, we witnessed shows that portrayed a talking horse, a family lost in space and a genie discovered on a beach by a young handsome astronaut who denied opportunity of a predominant desire of every young boy. Soon thereafter, the populous was ushered into Technicolor. Television sales skyrocketed thereafter. We were then on a quest unbeknownst to man that would addictively pervade on mankind a non-communicative ideology that awaits more technological advancement. A wrist watch now grants any opportunity to receive news and movies at an instant. We’ve seemingly come a long way while forgetting common hospitality. Moreover, the picturesque visuals of Ozzie and Harriet seated at a kitchen table with Wally and the Beave has become an unconscionable practice unto varied microwave meals received in resident’s individual abodes as their reliance on a Wi-Fi signal is captivating.

While young people question my desire to watch Gunsmoke and Rifleman in black and white via networks purporting old television, I too am bothered on how viewing the salacious television of their demand now found even in cartoons. Hey Baby-Boomers, we’re becoming obsolete! Are you with eternal security? *Believing is nullified when you refuse to be owned by HIM (*Ro.10:9)…

Today’s Thought “The Invisible, Shrinking Man” G. Ward

2 Timothy 3:16All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness...”

Malfeasance found in leaders shouldn’t determine whether a follower thereunto contributes righteously. Every life should seek maturity (Mt.5:48), but not in argumentative precepts that are subject to change (comparable to cell phone evolvement year to year). Our aim should embody the peace personified in the senior citizen, who remains comfortable (not complacent) with the more foundational principles demonstrated by many generations prior.

As any may insist on institutions to uphold banners of righteousness for their own to be governed by, the mode given man for adherence is with everlasting qualities that mandates every follower submit in such a way to please their Maker, whereby institution’s profitability naturally increases (Ps.37:5).

Today’s Thought “Young, Gifted and…” G. Ward

Proverbs 1:2-4 “To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding, To receive instruction in wise behavior, Righteousness, justice and equity; To give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and discretion.”

Heaven has been so generous to me. My God has given me the blessing of recall. He knew grief best in His Son’s sacrifice for mankind as extreme, but gave so lovingly anyhow.

Recently, I had a best friend go to heaven. Her long term sickness that ended had so many confounded because Holy God granted her great endurance in the presence of many. I’m reminded on this morning of an email exchange I had with her whereby her expressive transparency with me as her Brother/Pastor shared tremendous grief over such a bleak prognosis rendered. My encouragement for her sought to extinguish anticipating death, but to more foresee a future hope promised based on our confession of the Savior as Sufficient (*Ro.8:18).

I was so elated to view her 21 year old only son attend worship service on yesterday. If my grief remains great… I encouraged him to never shun her voice within (cf. Deut.6:4-7). Vigilance is the compelling that remains central to obliterating the depression component of grief. While so many tears will continue to flow, it never precludes my trust in God’s sovereign will.

Today’s Thought “That A Boy!” G. Ward

1 John 3:17 “But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?”

Awaiting accolades from the next seemingly successful generally extends hearty congratulations unto their accomplishments until it reaches into mine own pocketbook. The echoes in sympathetic sentiment placating with seven words or less concerning the storms of life plaguing others, along with numerous hurricanes of recent times, won’t ever substitute an ongoing care that witnesses the storm passing over in the lives of the less fortunate. Find a legitimate, benevolent organization whereby your contribution hits lethargy upside the head. While Holy God created us to be wholly/holy dependent on HIM, He also proposed interdependence unto conformity…

Today’s Thought “Three Days Without A…” G. Ward

2 Corinthians 7:10For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.”

The essence of cleaning up that to which I’ve destroyed is the elephant in the room too heavy warranting removal. There is however a spiritual way provided man where rest from impossibility thinking exists. It involves recognition in why the Savior of the world arrived (in earth) on His own volition in the first place. Mankind’s efforts in unsanctified remorse always demands ongoing recapitulation, whereas surrender (of every deficiency) unto God’s Sufficiency through Christ will soon experience HIS loving care that washes permanently and regret can’t exist. Who then is “Great” particularly as that same term contrasts the original composition (*Ge.2:7) of man? Cast your honorarium towards heaven’s rule and be guarded from a generation seeking to be esteemed among men by admitting how without Holy God my ship on the seas of life will soon sink.

Today’s Thought “Mid-Term Elections” G. Ward

Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.

Among the many responsibilities I share with fellow Pastors, there’s one seemingly with great opportunity to pervade faith in Christ unto those attendees; it’s the illustrious INVOCATION. The minister is invited to recite an inspirational discourse or prayer to help govern the event’s peace. I’ve been invited to do so at this year’s Georgia Gubernatorial rally within the county to which I reside. Political rallies now involve big names purporting great offensive measures, along with tremendous media coverage that minuscules this preacher boy’s message and while some prepare by asking Holy God to allow HIS servant’s eloquence to shine through, I choose to just pray that no matter the partisan politics, or lack in continuity in social advocacy, our LORD be recognized in HIS marvelous transcendence of man’s objective to conquer what seemingly is so entirely oppressive for society, without examination of the ONE who desires granting peace while those of us in earth are exposed (cf. Jer.17:9) to the constant bombardment of man’s impropriety (*Ro.8:18).

Today’s Thought “Skeleton In My Closet” G. Ward

Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

Why dust, the equivalent of dirt? One shower before leaving for the gym, another after the workout and finally the one before bedtime. Perhaps extreme for some, but necessary for most. The composition of man rarely contemplates the “why” in Holy God’s decision to use dust vs. something more foundational. Moreover, boasts of being created in His image is not solely our physical existence in earth, but embraces the awesome love of the Father who breathed in us that established real life (eternal presence – cf. Heb.13:5), ensuring every generation hope beyond the measurement of all we can see or touch. I choose to worship HIM.

On my way to purchase more soap…

Today’s Thought “Collapsing Under Stress” G. Ward

Acts 20:35 “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

I’ve heard it a million times, “Gregory, you’re a man first, then a Pastor.” Must I accept permission to lean further to mine own understanding, or quickly recapitulate towards directives from the All-Wise Savior? People of faith, particularly in Christ, experience spiritual transformation that embraces the entirety of what “new life” represents.  Formulatively and interrogatively, their new found quest should insist on becoming who their Redeemer proposes (*Mt.16:24). While it may sound prudent to accept notions of ordinary personage, we must never forget that exercise is exacerbating futility that never instructs after my demise that sends others to an eternal separation from the LORD who loves them the most and echoes of R.I.H., along with the newly celebrated posturing that wishes those who have died, “Happy Heavenly Birthday” although prevalent on the obituary and social network’s paging won’t guarantee (*Lk.6:46-49)…

Today’s Thought “Suicide On the Rise” G. Ward

Romans 2: 28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. 29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.

Currently, I’m on my way to the gym. It’s become routine, particularly as I endeavor senior-hood. I’m more determining that emotional conditioning outweighs physical in that, varied aches, along with prognosis of sorts may disallow rigorous physical exercise, whereas the mind can undergo greater conditioning. Moreover, there are blessings in that soulful training that should reflect on how I’ve been spared from past insatiable ideas in materialism, along with desire to be esteemed by man (cf. Mt.10:28).

The day given me more understands the insufficiency of pursuits outside of the solace my Lord provides when I hide behind His eternal presence.

Today’s Thought “Smothered Pork Chops and Rice” G. Ward

Mark 7:20-22 And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.”

I’ve been vegan for 1 year, 3 months, 5 hours and six minutes with periodic bouts in missing varied food items. My having been a member of AARP along with qualifying for senior housing, endeavored this change for health reasons only. As a pastor I’ve been interrogated about catfish, shrimp and pork incessantly. While the answer remains too simplistic for many due to pre-suppositional thoughts that deny conformity, the answer is two-fold: Israel was given law, both moral and dietary to portray them amidst a society purporting their own governance, to be a distinctive people belonging to Holy God for His purpose. Secondly, while Jesus removed evil spirits from two men casting them into a herd of swine whereby immediately they were thrust over a steep bank to drown, that never implied that Mama’s ham was tainted. Every portion of God’s word compels us towards “Perfect Submission” that renders “Perfect Delight!”

Today’s Thought “Wake Up Call” G. Ward

Psalm 121:2-4 “My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep.”

"Rip Van Winkle" is a short story by the American author Washington Irving first published in 1819. It follows a Dutch-American villager in colonial America named Rip Van Winkle who falls asleep in the Catskill Mountains and wakes up 20 years later, having missed the American Revolution (Wikipedia).

The swiftness of modern times seeks to pervade on us a similar slumber (cf. Rip Van Winkle), in that we’re now forced to think that prayer efforts unto Holy God obliterating cancer and the like, is that which should awaken HIM to the pestilences of today. Has any diagnosed with this horrendous disease suffered and died; particularly when they’ve lived a life devoted to our Lord? Where then is their suffering now (*1 Cor.15:55-57)? Castigations of political figures who in the name of partisanship seek to convince a populous even while sounding incredulous, exercise masterfully in diversion tactics, subtracting from greater issues that truly advocates their constituency’s concerns. The so-called believer avoids (similarly) the masses with the gospel truth (through concise presentation), ensuring any (who will listen) that Holy God never lost control.

Today’s Thought “To Be or Not to Be…” G. Ward
James 4:17 “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”
If I’m unfamiliar with a particular word, I don’t retrieve a magazine of sorts for the definition; particularly when a dictionary may be within my grasp. Many grapple each day with whose philosophy they’ll adopt to govern their outlook. Moreover, the consensus from these purveyors of motivation agrees that if circumstances and people are disagreeable, venture in an opposite direction. It’s no wonder that the predominance in humankind subject themselves to a merry-go-round syndrome (that is a quest unending); looking for love and acceptance from a populous who embraces selfish pursuits. It’s the very opposite of what TRUTH (*Jn.14:6) personified. Our MAKER delights in our interdependence, but only when we seek out others to encourage; not unto a worldly perspective that keeps us running aimlessly, but scurries towards HIS shelter knowing that the storm is imminent (*Ps.91:1).

Today’s Thought “In A Long Line Without Money” G. Ward

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

Another day granted is without merit from Heaven, especially when any awakens unto one’s own plans. Purporting ideas taken from the whole of society that mandates you can remain as you’ve been (i.e. personality and preference) while compelling Heaven’s embrace, defeats Christ’s sacrifice that desires to own you. Jesus insists, Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Mt.11:29).

Today’s Thought “Punishment Can Be Favor” G. Ward

Revelation 1:9 “I, John, your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.”

When choice given man becomes so familiar, he may soon be subject to doom. Moreover, too much preference offered, then perceived, lends more concentration of my own desire over Holy God’s pleasure. John the Revelator sought to uphold his Lord’s selfless-ness by sharing vigorously an urgency to walk accordingly, unto any who would listen. The government exercised in great jealousy, desiring to be all the peace the people would need, while John demonstrated who the real Prince of Peace was, causing him to be banished from the whole of society. Seemingly an impossible loneliness to endeavor, until any by faith perceive the eternal presence Holy God offers. Our observation of Holy God’s word through John’s banishment has become favorable to our today (*Rev.1:1-3).

Use me LORD for Your glory…

Today’s Thought “Just Add More Water…” G. Ward

Hebrews 9:27  And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

The opportunity given in the name of being awakened more demands a compelling awareness than operating as I’ve done in times past; any less a thought process is contemptuous. Moreover, man’s assessment on how good I’ve been through my own perceived achievements won’t matter against an Eternal regard; that’s regardless of what’s written on my obituary page and how I appeared sleeping peaceably in the coffin afforded me (*Mt.7:21).
