Today’s Thought “The Plight of Man” G. Ward

Joshua 24:14

“Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.”

When I was a small child more than often you would soon encounter what is now “risk management” disaster in the way of a stairwell with steps with absolutely no backing (comparable to the old fire escape). Then there was the illustrious elevator. Those days witnessed this huge metal gate that had to be closed before a button (indicating what floor one desired) could be depressed. While it began as a safety mechanism, if any would have their hand in the way upon closure, their today would be with a prosthetic one. These phobias never came with warning that invited fear but naturally encompassed my limited intellect as potentially dangerous and no one could convince me I was wrong.

Our assessment of historical markers is similar. We’ve seen some good days along with bad, particularly from generations before us. Moreover, some like myself experienced outstanding parentage who shared stories relative to history that spoke of hardships along with victories from our predecessors. We’re now in an era where information is marred by technological demand, squashing the kind of communication that once sought to instruct with warnings and admonishing. Finally, the transcendence of experience (whether historical or personal) must regard truer deliverance and its DELIVERER to understand that history repeats itself because there was never resolve given by man to prohibit sufferings (cf.* Ac.4:12).
