Today’s Thought “Good Credit” G. Ward

Luke 1:5-6

In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.

How utterly enticing for young people upon receipt of their first credit card to walk moderately in spending power. You swipe and take goods and services enabling payments (generally minimal) unto those lending institutions to become lengthy obligations soon to clash with ordinary fiscal responsibilities; whereas soon a trust may become violated (*cf. Heb.13:5-6).

Our spiritual predecessors like Zacharias and Elizabeth practiced implicit trust in their Maker’s provision. Those times leaned heavily on marriage then children and these two were disgraced from the latter. While grief may have been their unfortunate accompaniment, the intentional practice of faith prevailed enabling not just an ordinary child, but the forerunner of Christ our Lord who was prophesied about almost a thousand years earlier.

The essence of faith pursues the way superior to visuals. It awaits the plan Holy God introduces (not planning to then ask the Most High to bless…). The residual effect (of trust in the All-Wise Savior) lends peace and contentment and those cannot be purchased.
