Today’s Thought Progressive Moments G. Ward
“You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
What in the world have we done with the last sermon series we heard? With tremendous expectancy, many await a stirring discourse from their theologians (weekly) in determining their intimacy level with Holy God vs. a proven-ness that corroborates priesthood from every believer not contingent on a potential three hour involvement (every week) at one’s perspective worship center.
I’m certainly as guilty as any disseminator of truth in preparing messaging that utilizes different scriptural references to declare the mighty works of God. Sadly, there is often times a need for any of us to prompt varied Bible expressions to substantiate a singular passage. Every passage has enough context to affix our eyes on the matchless grace given us. This is not to say that utilization in cross passages is wrong; there is however great opportunity to remain with the lesson text, thus nullifying argumentative behavior from those seeking to refute anything not emanating from their pompous thought process. They’re easily distinguishable by prefacing their discourse with “yeah but,” foolishly discounting a passage offered earlier and ultimately designating Holy God as a liar (because the entirety are His words unto man, maintaining a perfect context and cadence).
Be sure that your demands on any theological discourse matches the perspective of the Bereans of Thessalonica; “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so” (Ac.17:11). Happy Wednesday!
