Today’s Thought “Selective Memory” G. Ward

Amos 5:21-24 “I hate, I reject your festivals, Nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies. “Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them; and I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings. “Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps. “But let justice roll down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

Imagine the acceptability rate of the Old Testament prophets, particularly with all their messaging of gloom and doom. The stark contrast given us mandates the mouthpiece of God now only present melodious passages concerning my own welfare. Altogether, this is opposite of worship. Moreover, most places designated worship centers have been planning for this weekend’s praise service with excellence. Musicians are fine tuning their chords presented and voices are with incessant rehearsal so as to present the most excellent sound. The audiences will marvel to then boast unto others that theirs is a fellowship of excitement. If spontaneous praise was the consideration, the construction would/could have implications of being marginal at best and what that may prove is worship never belonged to God, but sought to be an accompaniment that would provoke congregants to hear culminating truth (which amounts to disorderly).

Worship begins/ends with obedience and adoration with one existential reality (GOD IS GREAT and GREATLY TO BE PRAISED!) and no matter the sound, it’s the regard onto HIM, our Sovereign King, that all is owed. May we allow His change to indicate our preference(s) be a thing of the past, seeking what would bring glory and honor to His Name.
