Today’s
Thought “That’s Entertainment!” G. Ward
“And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of
speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus
Christ, and Him crucified.” 1 Corinthians 2:1-2
The pastoral call to fulfill is notably an honorable positioning (1 Ti.
3:1), while yet requiring more character and intensified intimacy with Holy God
(Jas. 3:1). For our modernity, it’s become a prosperous (monetarily so) pursuit
before sacrificial servitude. The predominant culture’s contingency in recognizing
those called ones (perceivably and ignorantly) is assessing their oratorical
presence. Forget their ability to teach (cf. 2 Ti.2:24) and their dedication
unto prayer (Ac.6:4); can he preach (i.e. is he a good entertainer?)? Moreover,
designations from onlookers (congregants) insist from those who are without
trepidation to rise to the pulpit. In other words, we’re too shy, but you’re
not; so you must be called! The Spirit realm chooses the faithfully persistent
unto surrender of HIS infinite wisdom (Jn. 15:5). Greater surrender will often
enable greater flow (i.e. eloquence)… “On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand, All Other
Ground is Sinking Sand…”
Happy Tuesday!
