Today’s
Thought “Anticipating Holy Week” G. Ward
“Therefore, confess
your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The
prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” James 5:16
Categorical
appropriating Easter or Resurrection Day as a holiday comparable to July 4th
for believers may be troubling. The Christians of James’ day would never
consider such ideology because they understood momentary reverence of the Holy
One due to great persecution plaguing them. Whether compelled statutorily or
customary, it’s more the objective for believers to weigh where information
emanates (Ac.7:11). Over and over again the words from God admonish mankind to
celebrate His faithfulness without personal preference and vain tradition (cf.
Jn.14:1-3).
While I
applaud new Easter outfits and ham dinners, we must remember there’s no
guarantee of visitation therein (*1 Thess.4:13-18)…
Happy
Monday!
