Today’s
Thought “Looking In Wrong Places” G.Ward
“He must increase, but
I must decrease.” John 3:30
There was a
man who Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849, a
notable poet laureate) portrayed as searching destitutely for resolve in his
most excellent manuscript entitled, The Raven. This gentleman
portrayed lost his love along with his closest constituents and found himself
amidst a statue (Pallas – a goddess of wisdom) whereby a raven sat. This more
or less is the essence of Experientialism (or god became personal experience).
Like many of us, some endeavor that mystical epiphanizing (dreams and someone
speaking into our lives) over the word of God. Foolishly, some are still
demanding a sign (cf. Mt.16:4, 2 Cor.5:7).
This man sat
and thought to speak to the bird. He endeavored an answer for his life becoming
more peaceable. Over and over again, the raven would reply (to his every line),
“NEVERMORE!” This bird’s desire was expressive of keeping this man contained in
severe depression, when all the man had to seek was Holy God’s resolve found in
the book of Romans, the eighth chapter and the eighteenth verse, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not
worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
Happy Tuesday!
